The Best Diaper Rash Creams

Eryplast Lutsine, NutraISDIN Baby Naturals or Aquaphor Healing Ointment are three of the best diaper rash creams.

It is one of the dermatoses that most receive consultations in children during the first months of the newborn.

Diaper Rash: Frequently Asked Questions:

The Reasons

It is a form of contact dermatitis or dermatitis caused by wet diapers. It affects children and other groups who wear diapers, such as the elderly.

Skin Irritation Due to Contact With Feces and Urine

If a child has frequent bowel movements, their skin is more likely to be irritated because stool is more irritating than urine.

Tight Diapers

Heat-tight diapers can help with diaper rash and rashes in the area.

Bacterial Fungal Infection

A simple rash can turn into a fungal infection.

The diaper area, buttocks, thighs and genitals are particularly susceptible to mold and yeast. It’s hot and humid. Reddish rashes appear as small red dots around skin folds.

Sensitive Skin

Babies with atopic or seborrheic dermatitis may be more likely to develop diaper rash, although symptoms of atopic dermatitis often affect other areas of the skin.

Use of Antibiotics

If the baby receives any antibiotic treatment, it can also be a cause of diaper rash.

Antibiotics kill the bad bacteria, but they also kill the good bacteria. If the bacteria that control the growth of yeast are reduced, they can grow excessively.

Introducing New Foods

From 6 months onwards, solid foods are introduced in the form of porridge. The baby’s stool will change, becoming more acidic and plentiful than when he was fed only milk. This increases the risk of developing diaper rash.

Diaper Rash Treatment

If you have doubts, it is better to go to the pediatrician, who will guide you on the behavior to follow, here are some practical tips:

  • Keeping the diaper area clean and dry is the best way to prevent diaper rash. Change the diaper every 3-4 hours.
  • When cleaning the baby’s skin, when drying, do not rub, use a soft towel and give light pats until the area is completely dry.
  • Once the area is dry, apply a cream or ointment, as products like zinc oxide or petroleum jelly help protect the skin from moisture. Apply a little cream, it is not recommended to smear the baby, the skin must be dry, using a lot of cream keeps the moisture.
  • In cases of severe irritation, increase airflow if possible without diapers). Leave the skin clean without adding ointment or cream three times a day for about 30 minutes each time. If the child is sleeping, you can use a damp cloth or towel to wet the area in case the child urinates or has a bowel movement.
  • Use larger diapers than normal, as the moisture barely touches the baby’s skin, which helps to improve diaper rash.

Diaper Rash Prevention

It’s best to prevent diaper rash at the slightest symptom, as these tips can be helpful.

Change diapers frequently to reduce skin contact with moisture. When they are newborns, they need about 8 diapers a day. So when they get older, it can be 6 a day or even 5.

Dry the baby’s bottom well, you can use microfiber cloths, they are very soft, absorbent and easy to wash. After checking that the skin is dry, apply a little protective diaper cream (but a small amount and a lot has a negative effect on the skin).

At the first sign of diaper rash, apply a specific cream and try not to tighten the diaper too much.
